In their early years, children grasp the world through play and this is also true for the acquisition of a knowledge of personal hygiene. Sanitary rooms both suitable for young children and attractively equipped facilitate and promote this important step in everyone’s development. For this reason ,the “Blue Responsibility” initiative is drawing attention to the need for sustained modernization of the sanitary facilities in the 88,000 kindergartens, nurseries and schools in Germany. For the renovation of what are all too often outdated spaces has been granted little attention in recent years. It may seem paradoxical, yet it is true that the economic crisis provided the first decisive stimulus for launching a comprehensive renovation and redevelopment pro-gram, at both the federal and state levels. Thus, the Second Economic Stimulus Package alone provides development funds in the region of 6.5 billion euros for educational infrastructure.
